Biography

Saxophonist Dr. William Chien is from Taipei, Taiwan. He is an active performer, author and educator. He has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He holds the degree of Doctor of Music from the University of North Texas, majoring in saxophone performance and related field in jazz study.

Dr. Chien has given recitals and concerts all over the world. He has appeared at various international events such as World Saxophone Congress, North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference, Navy International Saxophone Symposium, Asian Saxophone Congress, Denton Jazz Festival, Malaysia KK Jazz Festival and Taichung Jazz Festival.

Dr. Chien has previously served on the faculty as Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Taiwan National Tainan University, National Sun Yat-sen University, Taipei Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taipei Christ’s College, Kuang Jen High School and Taipei Hwa Kang Art School. He has been awarded the position of Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas from 2010-2013. Since 2018, Dr. Chien is appointed to direct saxophone ensembles and teach saxophone lessons at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, U.S.A.

Dr. Chien released several CDs and saxophone method books, including “Saxophone Learning for Novices” and “Saxophone Altissimo”. In 2017, Dr. Chien started a YOUTUBE tutorial channel, releasing dozens of videos of jazz and saxophone teaching. This is one of the few saxophone tutorial channels in the Mandarin language, and it has already been viewed over 930,000 times. Dr. Chien is an endorsing artist for Yanagisawa Saxophone, Legere Reed and SYOS.
