Custom-made mouthpieces, how's that even possible?

Syos was founded by two researchers in acoustics. By studying, on the one hand the physical phenomena behind the workings of the saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces, and on the other hand the way musicians perceive and describe auditory sensations with words, we are able to associate tonal characteristics with the various geometric elements that make up the mouthpiece (chamber, baffle, tip opening…).

How can you be sure this custom mouthpiece is the right match for me?

When you order a Syos mouthpiece, we determine the most appropriate geometry based on your answers to our questionnaire. You will receive it within a week and you can try it at home, during rehearsals, concerts, etc. If necessary, your feedback will help us improve the mouthpiece so that it unquestionably satisfies you. The second version we will send you will be closer to your expectations. You can try it out, compare it to the first one and ask for further adjustments. And what's more, one of our acoustics experts will accompany you throughout the process!

I’d like to test it before buying it. Where is this possible?

When you order a mouthpiece, you have 30 days (upon reception) to test it at home and you can send it back for an improved version if it doesn't feel quite right. You can also come visit the Syos studio in Paris to try multiple mouthpieces: make a reservation with Sylvie, Madeline or Brian to discover our library of over 1000 mouthpieces and better understand the differences in geometry and their effect on tonality. We also have distributors all over the world, find the closest one on our dedicated map.

Are Syos mouthpieces for professional use only?

We make Syos mouthpieces for all saxophonists and clarinetists, professionals as well as amateurs! Everyone has their own sound identity and their own relationship with their instrument. In fact, Syos mouthpieces are already used by many amateur saxophonists and clarinetists in France as well as in other countries, and are used for playing many genres of music (rock, jazz, pop…).

How much time does it take to receive my mouthpiece when I order?

We then ship your mouthpiece with FedEx all over the world (except Central and South America). I don't know anything about sound aesthetics: how do I know what is appropriate for me?

The questionnaire we created gives you the oportunity to specify your expectations in terms of sound with the vocabulary we provide. And if you're feeling a little lost, don’t hesitate to call us (+[33] 1 87 66 55 14) for further explanations: we’ll help you to fill out the questionnaire. You can also visit our artists' pages where you can listen to sound references.

I broke my hard rubber mouthpiece, can you make a copy of it?

We don’t reproduce existing mouthpieces, however we can create a Syos original mouthpiece with a geometry that will give the same sound aesthetics as your previous one, and even try to create a mouthpiece with a greater ease of play.

Can I put your mouthpieces in my mouth without any risks?

The plastic we use to make Syos mouthpieces has been certified as non-toxic after laboratory testing (EN 71 and CE 1907/2006 standards). In fact, the same kind of plastic is used to make toys for children, which can be put in your mouth without any health risks. On other hand, with “ebonite” plastic, when old they can release sulfuric acid, which gives it a yellow-green color.
